Penske Truck Leasing Goes Green with Solar Power: A Step Toward Sustainability

As the trucking industry continues to embrace sustainability, Penske Truck Leasing is leading the charge by integrating solar power into several of its U.S. facilities. This move reflects a growing commitment to reducing environmental impact and adopting renewable energy solutions, a shift that resonates with SMJ Freight’s dedication to greener practices.

Solar Power at New and Existing Facilities

Penske has launched its solar initiative at a newly operational facility in Channahon, Illinois. This location now features a rooftop photovoltaic system that supplies approximately 80% of the building's energy needs. But the effort doesn’t stop there—Penske is set to expand solar power to additional facilities, including new locations in:

• Grand Rapids, Michigan

• Linden, New Jersey

Additionally, Penske plans to retrofit seven of its California locations with solar systems, collectively generating around 600 kW of renewable energy.

Collaboration with ForeFront Power

Penske’s solar installations are being developed in collaboration with ForeFront Power, a leading renewable energy provider. Together, they aim to significantly reduce energy consumption from non-renewable sources.

Once operational, four solar-powered Penske facilities are expected to produce approximately 1 million kWh annually. This renewable energy output will help reduce emissions by 442 metric tons of CO₂e—a savings equivalent to powering nearly 90 homes for an entire year.
